Cyprus transitions to DVB-T2 digital television platform
The Republic of Cyprus is transitioning its terrestrial digital television network from the Velister platform to a new system operated by Hellas Sat. This shift, authorized by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy following a public tender, utilizes the modern DVB-T2 transmission standard. The transition period began on 30 March 2026, and both the old and new signals will broadcast simultaneously until 30 April 2026. After 1 May 2026, households receiving television via an antenna must be equipped with DVB-T2 technology to maintain access to broadcasts. The update does not affect subscribers of cable or satellite television platforms. Viewers with DVB-T2 compatible televisions need only perform a channel rescan to continue service. Those with older equipment must purchase either a new DVB-T2 set-top box or a compatible television set to avoid losing their signal.
