Suspect remanded following violent assault in Famagusta

A 34-year-old man was remanded in custody for eight days by the Famagusta District Court on Monday following a violent attack. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 8:40 pm outside a residence in the Famagusta district. Two men, aged 18 and 30, were reportedly assaulted, with one account describing the perpetrator as a lone suspect and another reporting an attack by a group. The 18-year-old victim received first aid at Famagusta General Hospital and was discharged. The 30-year-old victim was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital with serious head injuries, specifically a subdural haematoma and a midline shift, and remains in a stable condition. Police identified and arrested the 34-year-old suspect at 9:00 pm on Sunday. He faces charges including conspiracy to commit a felony and causing grievous bodily harm. The Famagusta Criminal Investigation Department continues to investigate the circumstances of the case.
