Akel leader Stefanos Stefanou meets with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis in Athens

Akel Secretary-General Stefanos Stefanou met with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis in Athens on Monday to discuss the Cyprus problem. The participants addressed the ongoing impasse regarding the island's division, taking into account the current geopolitical instability in the Middle East. Both sides agreed that the current stagnation hinders the prospects for resuming negotiations. The stated objective is to restart peace talks from the point where they were interrupted at the 2017 Crans-Montana conference. Stefanou and Gerapetritis reaffirmed their commitment to a comprehensive solution based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality. This solution aims to end the occupation and reunify the country and its people. Both parties concluded the meeting by agreeing to maintain regular contact and continue discussions on the issue.
