Akel leader meets with officials in Cyprus and Greece to discuss Cyprus issue
Stefanos Stefanou, General Secretary of the political party Akel, held a series of meetings to discuss the ongoing stalemate in the Cyprus issue. In the occupied areas of Cyprus, Stefanou met with former Turkish Cypriot leaders Mehmet Ali Talat and Mustafa Akinci. Following these meetings, he traveled to Athens for discussions with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis. Stefanou emphasized the necessity of breaking the current deadlock to resume negotiations from where they left off in 2017. He reiterated that the solution must be based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality. All parties acknowledged that the regional instability in the Middle East has complicated the situation. Stefanou highlighted that ending the occupation and reunifying the country remains the party's primary goal. The meetings were described as productive, with agreements to maintain continuous contact regarding future diplomatic steps.
