Cypriot taekwondo athlete receives medical assistance in Uzbekistan
A minor athlete representing the Cyprus National Taekwondo Team fell ill with symptoms of acute appendicitis while in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The incident occurred just hours before the team's scheduled departure for Cyprus. Due to the absence of a Cypriot embassy in Tashkent, the team sought assistance from the Cypriot government. Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos facilitated communication with the Cypriot Ambassador to Moscow, Kypros Giorgallis. Ambassador Giorgallis maintained constant contact with the national team coach, Nikos Nikolaou, throughout the night to monitor the athlete's condition. The embassy provided guidance and explored options including the deployment of diplomatic staff to assist the team. The medical situation was resolved, and the entire national team has safely returned to Cyprus.
