Fire safety week launched in Cyprus

The Cyprus Fire Service and ERB Insurance have inaugurated Fire Safety Week to promote public awareness and prevention. Fire Chief Nikos Longinos stated that over 90% of annual fires in Cyprus are caused by human activity, whether through negligence, carelessness, or intentional acts. The Fire Service responds to an average of 8,500 calls annually, including 5,000 in rural areas and 3,500 in urban settings. Takis Feidias, CEO of ERB Insurance in Cyprus, emphasized that the high percentage of human-caused incidents suggests that the vast majority of fires are preventable through proper cooperation. The initiative aims to educate citizens on identifying risks and reacting appropriately to fire emergencies. Events will culminate on April 25th with a demonstration and equipment exhibition at Paphos Castle at 10:00 a.m. The British Bases Fire and Rescue Service is also participating in the safety campaign.
