Rise in burglaries reported in Paphos

Residents near Tombs of the Kings Avenue and Promitheos Street in Paphos have reported a surge in burglaries and thefts occurring over the past eight days. Local testimonies suggest these incidents are linked to individuals allegedly occupying the abandoned Roman Hotel, which has been closed for over three years. Residents reported signs of unauthorized habitation, including nighttime lights, movement in corridors, and clothing hung on balconies. Security camera footage capturing three individuals has been submitted to the police for investigation. Assistant Director of Operations for Paphos Police, Michalis Nikolaou, confirmed that authorities have ordered increased patrols in the area and plan to inspect the premises. While police acknowledge the situation, they noted that no formal complaints regarding the property itself have been filed due to the absence of the owner. Residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the initial police response and have begun organizing informal neighborhood watches while enhancing their own security measures.
