Government requests FBI assistance in the Santi case investigation

On April 21, 2026, the President of Cyprus announced that the government has requested assistance from the FBI for the investigation of the 'Santi' case, specifically regarding the analysis of testimonies and witness statements. Washington has responded positively, and an FBI team is expected to arrive in Cyprus within the coming days. President Nikos Christodoulides, informed by Minister of Justice Kostas Fytiris and Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis, stated that the ongoing investigation is in an advanced stage. The police are also collaborating with Europol on specialized forensic examinations using modern European standards. The Council of Ministers is currently evaluating whether to appoint an independent criminal investigator or continue the investigation exclusively through the police team. The investigation involves allegations raised by journalist Makarios Drousiotis. Approximately 30 individuals have already been questioned since March 30, 2026.
