Summary of fire incidents and criminal investigations in Cyprus

On Tuesday night, a fire broke out in an abandoned apartment building in Strovolos, Nicosia, which was extinguished shortly after 11:00 PM. In a separate incident on the same night, a motorcycle was set on fire in Limassol in what authorities described as a malicious act. Additionally, early Wednesday morning, a vehicle belonging to an 80-year-old woman was destroyed by fire in the Tricherousas area of Limassol, with the Limassol CID investigating the cause. Separately, police in Latsia arrested a 30-year-old suspect following an arson incident involving a vehicle. Reports suggest the suspect was confronted and beaten by bystanders before being hospitalized under police guard. Initial investigations indicate the motive for the Latsia incident may involve personal or financial disputes, and while early reports identified a 42-year-old woman as the owner, authorities later clarified the vehicle belongs to her male friend who is known to police. Throughout a 24-hour period, the Fire Service responded to 26 incidents across the island, including 13 fires.
