Police investigations and training exercises across Cyprus
In Paphos, a 41-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man have had their detention extended for eight days following their arrest on April 15 for arson-related offenses and resisting arrest. Separately, in Latsia, Nicosia, police arrested a 29-year-old woman in connection with the arson of a vehicle on April 20, 2026, while a 30-year-old man previously arrested for the same incident remains in custody. Authorities suspect personal or financial disputes, including potential drug transactions, in the Latsia case. Additionally, fire services conducted a large-scale emergency response exercise, codenamed 'Pyrsos 2026', at the 27-storey Limassol Delmar tower in Germasogeia. Further minor incidents included a fire in an abandoned building in Strovolos and a malicious vehicle fire in Limassol. Investigations remain ongoing for all pending criminal cases.
