School locks sabotaged at Polis Chrysochous high school
On Monday, following the Easter break, students and staff at the Polis Chrysochous Lyceum encountered a disruption as unknown individuals sabotaged locks on over ten classroom doors. The perpetrators inserted wooden objects and toothpicks into the mechanisms, preventing entry to classrooms on the first and second floors. School board officials and maintenance staff intervened immediately to replace the locks, allowing classes to commence with a brief delay. Pavlos Charalambous, president of the local school board, confirmed the incident and noted that similar acts of delinquency occur periodically when schools are closed. While local media outlets differ on whether the sabotage also affected a nearby Technical School, the primary focus of official reports is the Lyceum. In response to these recurring security issues, the school board is finalizing plans to install a surveillance camera system, with tenders expected to be issued next week. Additionally, the school board has increased security patrols across the campus, which houses elementary, gymnasium, and lyceum buildings in a single complex.
