Energy minister to meet with EAC board and trade unions

Cyprus Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianou, is scheduled to hold separate meetings on Tuesday with the Board of Directors of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) and the authority's trade unions. The discussions will cover critical issues including system adequacy, network infrastructure, the Dhekelia power generators, and photovoltaic energy projects. Minister Damianou emphasized that these topics have been under discussion for some time and require progress monitoring. Regarding a planned 24-hour strike by the trade unions on Thursday, April 23, the Minister stated that labor issues fall under the jurisdiction of the EAC Board rather than the Ministry. While the unions view their grievances as broader operational issues rather than purely labor disputes, the Minister clarified that his meeting with them is for listening purposes and does not imply direct intervention in strike negotiations. The Minister plans to meet the Board at 14:30 and the unions at 16:00 at the EAC headquarters in Nicosia.
