Investigation into the pregnancy and birth of a 14-year-old in Limassol

On November 5, 2025, a 14-year-old girl was admitted to Limassol Hospital with severe pain, where medical staff discovered she was 34 weeks pregnant and performed an emergency delivery. The minor was subsequently placed in the 'House of the Child' for support. Following several interviews with authorities, the girl eventually alleged that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted by an unknown man. Police identified and arrested a 19-year-old Syrian national in connection with the incident. On Sunday, April 19, the suspect appeared before the Limassol District Court, which ordered his detention for five days to facilitate ongoing investigations. Authorities are investigating charges of sexual abuse of a minor, rape, kidnapping for unlawful restraint, threats, and illegal possession of a knife. While the victim initially stated she did not know the father's identity, her later statements provided specific details about the encounter occurring near a kiosk. The investigation remains active.
