U.S. forces seize Iranian cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman
On Sunday, U.S. forces intercepted and seized the Iranian-flagged container ship Touska off the coast of Iran near the port of Chabahar. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the vessel, which originated from Asia, was intercepted by the USS Spruance after allegedly failing to comply with a naval blockade. Reports indicate the U.S. Navy disabled the ship by firing at its engine room, leaving it under the control of U.S. Marines. Washington officials suspect the vessel was carrying dual-use items, such as metals or electronic components, while Iran condemned the action as illegal armed piracy. Following the incident, Iran announced it would reject further peace negotiations with the United States. This event has jeopardized the ceasefire agreement that was scheduled to expire on Tuesday. Consequently, oil prices have risen amid concerns over potential retaliatory actions in the Gulf region.
