Cypriot sailors compete at Grand Slam event in Hyères

Cypriot sailors are participating in the Grand Slam sailing competition in Hyères, France, held between April 18 and April 25. After two days of racing and four completed races in the ILCA7 class, Pavlos Kontides holds 18th place in the overall rankings. Kontides, who is recovering from an injury sustained earlier this year, recorded a 15th-place finish and a 2nd-place finish on Tuesday. In the IQFOIL class, Natasa Lappa is currently in 17th place. Marilena Makri, competing in the ILCA6 class, improved her standing by 18 positions to reach 42nd place after five races. The competition features a new scoring format ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which involves a qualifying series followed by final races. Kontides is using this event as a training milestone to prepare for the European Championships in May.
