Group run in Paphos commemorates the 80th anniversary of Stelios Kyriakides' Boston Marathon victory

Members of the Stelios Kyriakides Association organized a symbolic 7.7-kilometer group run in Paphos to mark the 80th anniversary of the athlete's victory at the Boston Marathon. The event began at 08:00 from the Municipal Baths, with participants wearing the association's official jerseys. This initiative aimed to honor the legacy of Stelios Kyriakides, who won the Boston Marathon on April 20, 1946. His 1946 win occurred during the post-war reconstruction period in Greece and served as a significant symbol of hope for the nation. Beyond the sporting achievement, Kyriakides leveraged his success to organize international humanitarian aid for Greece, known as the 'Kyriakides Package'. The run emphasized the athlete's role in promoting unity and community inspiration. Participants described the event as a way to keep the example of Kyriakides' humanitarian efforts and athletic success alive.
