Cyprus pledges 850,000 euros in humanitarian aid for Sudan and neighboring regions
On April 18, 2026, the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a humanitarian aid package of at least 850,000 euros via the CyprusAid program. The announcement was made during the 3rd International Humanitarian Conference for Sudan, held in Berlin. This funding is intended to support the affected populations in Sudan and 12 other countries in the region, specifically South Sudan, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, Eritrea, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Cameroon, and Egypt. The aid aims to assist vulnerable groups, with a primary focus on women and children. The assistance will be distributed through programs run by UNICEF, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA). The Ministry stated that Africa remains a key priority for CyprusAid's humanitarian operations. This pledge is in direct response to international calls for increased support to the conflict-affected region.
