Public dispute intensifies between DISY and Odysseas Michaelides

A public confrontation has erupted between the Democratic Rally (DISY) party and the head of the ALMA movement, Odysseas Michaelides. DISY, represented by Onoufrios Koullas, accused Michaelides of systematic disinformation, citing a unanimous decision by eight Supreme Court judges who previously ruled against him for professional misconduct and public shaming of individuals. DISY further criticized Michaelides for allegedly ignoring past economic crises, such as the Dromolaxia case, to avoid offending his potential future allies in AKEL. In response, Michaelides characterized the current DISY leadership as a continuation of the Nikos Anastasiades era. He highlighted multiple corruption scandals linked to the party, including the collapse of the Cooperative Bank (costing over €3 billion), the Vasiliko energy project (costing over €1 billion), and the golden passports scheme. Michaelides maintained that these scandals caused lasting damage to the public and that the party leadership is attempting to rewrite history by labeling legitimate investigations as conspiracy theories. DISY countered by stating that its leadership has never been legally convicted and that Michaelides' practices weaken democracy and institutional trust.
