Larnaca residents to protest over port and marina development delays
The Larnaca Development Committee, chaired by Mayor Andreas Vyras, has unanimously decided to hold a protest on Wednesday, April 29, at 6:00 PM outside the city's port. The demonstration follows frustration over continued delays in the redevelopment of the port, marina, and surrounding landside areas. Although the Cyprus Ports Authority previously indicated it would submit a development proposal, the government decided to prioritize political decisions based on a study by the Greek Growthfund. This study is expected to be delivered by early May and will clarify which land areas can be released for commercial use. Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades has committed to presenting a draft master plan, cost estimates, and financial schemes within one to two months after the study is finalized. Mayor Vyras stated that the protest is a response to two years of inaction and stagnation regarding the project. Local authorities are demanding concrete timelines to move forward with the vital infrastructure works.
