Former attorney general addresses allegations in the Sandy affair
Former Attorney General of Cyprus, Costas Clerides, issued a statement responding to public speculation regarding his silence on allegations made by journalist Makarios Drousiotis. Drousiotis has alleged the existence of a network involving senior judicial, political, and financial figures, centered on a woman referred to as 'Sandy'. The allegations include claims that former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou raped and stabbed Sandy and fathered three of her children, accusations which Christodoulou denies. The controversy intensified after police searched the home and office of lawyer Nicos Clerides, the brother of the former attorney general. Former Bar Association chairman Christos Clerides criticized the police action as intimidation, questioning why the authorities did not search the properties of Christodoulou or the complainant. Other prominent figures, including Edek deputy leader and former MEP Demetris Papadakis, have also been named in the allegations. Costas Clerides stated he will present any limited information he received after his retirement to the appropriate authorities if deemed necessary. Evidence collected in the case has been forwarded to Europol's cybercrime laboratories for forensic analysis.
