Cyprus Football Association reschedules top-flight match due to atmospheric dust
On April 18, 2026, the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) addressed the impact of extreme African dust levels on sporting events. While all matches in the Second Division, Third Division, and youth leagues scheduled after midday were postponed indefinitely, the CFA decided to proceed with the top-tier matches. Specifically, the 'eternal' derby between Omonia and APOEL was moved from 17:00 to 18:00 to mitigate health risks. Air quality monitoring stations reported hazardous particulate matter levels across the island, with Nicosia seeing significant spikes. The decision to hold the first-division matches remained under review until the afternoon, despite health concerns regarding the toxic air quality. All professional teams involved in the top-flight fixtures were notified of the schedule changes.
