Limassol company reports major cryptocurrency theft following phishing attempt
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Limassol Police is investigating a case of electronic fraud reported by a company director. According to the complaint, on April 16, 2026, employees received an email containing a malicious link. After an employee clicked the link, 176,580 units of cryptocurrency were illicitly transferred from the company's digital wallet to unknown accounts. While initial police reports highlighted the theft of cryptocurrencies, several local media outlets identified the loss as exceeding 176,000 euros. The incident was officially reported to the authorities on April 17, 2026.
