Explosion at a kiosk in Limassol
On April 18, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., an explosion occurred at the entrance of a kiosk in the Omonia area of Limassol, Cyprus. The blast caused extensive damage to the building. Preliminary police investigations suggest the incident was caused by a low-power improvised explosive device. Security footage captured two individuals wearing dark clothing and helmets fleeing the scene on a black motorcycle. The Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) of Limassol has cordoned off the area to conduct forensic examinations. Authorities are scheduled to take a statement from the 35-year-old owner of the kiosk to determine if he had any known disputes. While most sources identify the device as an improvised explosive, one report briefly mentioned a suspicion of arson, which remains unconfirmed. Investigations into the motive and identification of the perpetrators are ongoing.
