Olympiacos plans appeal to ASEAD regarding Tyrique Jones suspension and Super Cup fines
The Hellenic Basketball Federation (ESAKE) disciplinary judge suspended Olympiacos player Tyrique Jones for three games and fined him 30,000 euros. The penalty follows an incident during the March 30, 2026, match between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, where Jones was accused of making an insulting gesture toward opposing fans. While the judge ruled that the gesture was offensive and not a celebration, Olympiacos contends that the player was signaling the letter 'W' for 'Win'. Additionally, the club is contesting the ruling regarding Panathinaikos's absence from the Super Cup, arguing that the regulation requires an automatic exclusion from the next tournament rather than a simple fine. Olympiacos officials stated that the current penalties create a dangerous precedent for future league rulings. The club intends to appeal both decisions to the ASEAD (Supreme Council for the Resolution of Athletic Disputes) to seek a full reversal. Jones will miss the final two regular-season games against Aris and AEK, as well as the first playoff game.
