International funding announced for Sudan humanitarian crisis
On April 15, 2026, the third International Conference on Sudan took place in Berlin to address the ongoing humanitarian emergency. During the summit, the European Union, its member states, and international partners, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the African Union, announced a funding package exceeding 811 million euros. Cyprus is among the contributing nations aiming to mitigate the crisis caused by the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. Fighting in Sudan began in April 2023, resulting in widespread displacement, destruction of critical infrastructure, and severe food and medical shortages. International agencies characterize this as one of the fastest-growing humanitarian crises globally. The funding is intended to provide essential aid to affected populations facing acute hunger and limited access to necessities. Despite international efforts, aid workers continue to face restricted access within the region due to the ongoing conflict.
