Paralimni-Deryneia municipality objects to migrant facilities in tourist zones

The Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia has officially expressed strong opposition to the operation of migrant accommodation structures within local tourist areas. Local authorities highlighted a specific case involving a third-country national with a history of delinquent behavior who had been transferred to a facility in the area after being deemed undesirable elsewhere. Upon learning of the individual's presence, municipal officials collaborated with the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection and the Famagusta Police Department to arrange for the person's immediate relocation. The municipality thanked these authorities for their swift response in mitigating potential risks. Beyond this specific incident, the municipality has reiterated its formal position that operating such facilities in tourist zones is harmful. They have requested that the government cease issuing contracts for migrant structures in these areas. Furthermore, the municipality is calling for more responsible management of individuals with criminal records or histories of delinquency. The administration maintains that such placements are inappropriate for tourism-dependent regions.
