Paralimni-Deryneia municipality addresses concerns over migrant housing in tourist areas

The Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia has formally expressed opposition to the operation of migrant housing facilities within its tourist zones. Local authorities identified an individual with a prior criminal record who had been relocated to a local migrant structure after being deemed undesirable in other parts of Cyprus. Upon receiving this information, the municipality coordinated with the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection and the Famagusta Police Department to relocate the individual. Following this intervention, the person was removed from the facility to prevent potential security issues. The municipality thanked the authorities for their prompt response to the specific incident. However, officials reiterated their broader stance that operating such structures in tourist-heavy areas is detrimental to the region. The municipality is now demanding the termination of contracts for migrant facilities in tourist locations. Furthermore, they have called for more responsible management of individuals from third countries who possess criminal records or exhibit delinquent behavior.
