Cypriot parliamentary delegation addresses IPU assembly in Istanbul

A delegation from the Cyprus House of Representatives, led by Averof Neophytou and including Alexandra Attalidou, participated in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul. During his address, Neophytou highlighted that Cyprus has been grappling with the aftermath of the 1974 invasion and the occupation of one-third of its territory for over five decades. He stated that more than 200,000 citizens remain displaced and described the situation regarding missing persons and those living in the occupied areas as open wounds. Neophytou reaffirmed Cyprus's commitment to reaching a solution based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation in accordance with international law and UN resolutions. He emphasized that the Cyprus issue is a test for the credibility of the international system regarding the enforcement of UN resolutions. The MP also stressed the necessity of parliamentary diplomacy, multilateral cooperation, and youth participation in policy-making to bridge differences and foster peace.
