Ammochostos EOA reports on dangerous buildings and permit processing statistics

The Famagusta District Local Government Organization (EOA) has identified 26 dangerous buildings within the free province, most of which are abandoned properties. EOA President Yiannis Karousos announced that a reassessment of these structures is being planned in collaboration with the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) and external experts to determine necessary safety measures. Karousos emphasized the need for legal amendments to provide the EOA with stronger enforcement tools. Meanwhile, the organization reported a significant increase in the issuance of urban and building permits. Total permits issued rose from 698 in 2024 to 2,384 in 2025, consisting of 1,274 urban and 1,110 building permits. This upward trend continues into 2026, with 641 permits issued by March. The EOA attributes this growth to improved internal coordination and efforts to accelerate application processing times, noting specific monthly growth percentages for early 2026.
