Tender for Paphos-Polis motorway section closes following legal delays
The tender for the Agia Marinouda–Stroumbi section of the Paphos–Polis Chrysochous motorway, valued at over €100 million, concludes today, April 17, 2026. Initially launched on August 8, 2025, the process faced significant delays following a challenge filed by contractor AKTOR on August 18, 2025. The Tenders Review Authority (TRA) issued prohibitory measures on August 22, 2025, suspending the procurement until November 19, 2025, when it rejected the company's cancellation grounds. Due to court-ordered pauses and subsequent extensions, the submission deadline was moved from the original date of November 7, 2025, through several stages to today. The Public Works Department (PWD) stated that 64 questions were submitted by interested parties, addressed through 11 clarificatory addenda. The PWD expressed hope that this high level of engagement would result in a competitive bidding process. Key risk factors for the project, as identified by officials, include volatile international oil prices and the potential for further legal challenges. The government maintains its commitment to the completion of the motorway infrastructure project.
