British father sentenced to life imprisonment for infant daughter's murder
In March 2022, five-week-old Darcy-Lee Jefferson died following repeated physical assaults in the United Kingdom. Her 35-year-old father, Sean Jefferson, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years at Stafford Crown Court. Medical examinations revealed that the infant suffered catastrophic brain injuries and over 40 bone fractures, including broken ribs and legs, in the days leading up to her death. During the seven-week trial, Sean Jefferson admitted to losing control during the attacks. Footage from a police body camera recorded the defendant complaining about the tightness of his handcuffs during his arrest. The child's mother, 34-year-old Amy Clark, who was a cocaine user, was sentenced to seven years in prison. Clark was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child and two counts of causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child. The court dismissed original murder and manslaughter charges against the mother.
