Cyprus defense industry participates in European Defence Fund 2025 projects
On April 15, 2026, results from the European Defence Fund (EDF 2025) were announced, highlighting the significant participation of the Cypriot defense industry. Cyprus is involved in 16 out of 57 approved projects, representing a 28% participation rate. The total budget for these projects exceeds 280 million euros, involving 10 Cypriot companies. This achievement places Cyprus 13th among 26 participating countries regarding the number of funded projects. President Nikos Christodoulides praised the sector's contribution to the national economy and defense, noting its potential to reach a double-digit percentage of GDP in the coming years. Tasos Kounoudis, President of the Cyprus Association of Research and Innovation Enterprises, attributed this success to long-term investment and coordinated government policy. The industry currently consists of approximately 30 innovative companies within the association's ecosystem. The government expressed satisfaction with these results as a validation of ongoing national development efforts.
