Parliament: Bill approved for a register of enclaved persons
The Cypriot Parliament approved a bill to establish a registry of "enclaved" individuals, those who were trapped in the Turkish-occupied territories after the 1974 invasion. The registry will include individuals who remained in or moved from these areas, including their children and deceased persons. An amendment clarifies that inclusion in the registry for those who moved to government-controlled areas is regardless of their reasons for moving. The registry will be initially compiled using existing data from independent sources, in cooperation with relevant authorities. The registry will include information such as place of residence and duration of displacement, with an option for electronic information submission.
