FIFA confirms Iran will participate in the upcoming World Cup
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that the Iranian national football team will participate in the upcoming World Cup hosted in the United States. Following meetings with the players, Infantino stated that the team is determined to represent its people on the global stage. There had been prior uncertainty regarding the participation of the Iranian team due to geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Israel. Furthermore, the Iranian Football Federation had reportedly sought to negotiate moving their scheduled matches from the United States to Mexico. Despite these requests, Infantino clarified that all matches will take place at the locations determined by the original draw. Iran is scheduled to face New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles on June 15 and June 21, respectively, and Egypt in Seattle on June 26. The FIFA president emphasized that sports should remain separate from political issues and expressed hope for a peaceful environment during the tournament.
