Cyprus hosts the 4th European Maritime Space Forum in Limassol
On Thursday, Cyprus Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, opened the 4th European Maritime Space Forum in Limassol. The event brought together representatives from the European Commission, national and port authorities, financial institutions, and shipping organizations. The primary focus of the forum is the implementation and future development of the European Maritime Space. Minister Vafeades emphasized the necessity of a reliable and interconnected European transport network, particularly in light of current geopolitical tensions and global supply chain disruptions. He highlighted that maritime links are essential for the stability and resilience of the broader European transport system. Vafeades stated that the shipping sector is central to European connectivity rather than a mere regional component. Furthermore, he advocated for strengthening the maritime dimension of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). He specifically noted that such policies must account for the unique geographical challenges faced by island states and remote regions, including Cyprus.
