Bus crash in southern Ecuador leaves 11 dead

On Wednesday, a bus accident occurred near Molleturo in the Azuay province of southern Ecuador. According to the ECU 911 emergency service, the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a ravine, subsequently catching fire. The incident resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people. Additionally, 20 individuals sustained injuries and were transported to local healthcare facilities for treatment. Road traffic accidents remain a leading cause of mortality in Ecuador. Official statistics indicate that 2,000 citizens died in such incidents last year, with the highest annual toll recorded in 2023, reaching 2,373 fatalities.
