European Judo Championships set to begin in Tbilisi
The European Judo Championships will commence tomorrow in Tbilisi, Georgia, featuring 410 athletes from 46 countries. Nine Cypriot judokas are participating in the event, which follows the Tbilisi Grand Slam held in late March 2026. The tournament schedule begins on April 16 with Petros Christodoulidis (-66kg), Georgios Balarjishvili (-66kg), and Sofia Asvesta (-52kg). On April 17, Kyprianos Andreou (-73kg) and Marina Azinou (-57kg) will compete, followed by Odysseas Georgakis (-81kg) on April 18. The competition concludes on April 19 with Georgios Krousaniotakis (-100kg), Ioannis Antoniou (+100kg), and Aristos Michael (-100kg). Petros Christodoulidis, who spent over a month in Georgia preparing, is ranked 12th in his division, while Balarjishvili is ranked 14th. Christodoulidis has expressed his ambition to reach the finals, mirroring his performance at the previous Grand Slam event.
