Minister Giorgos Mylonakis in intensive care following brain aneurysm rupture
On Wednesday morning, April 15, 2026, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister Giorgos Mylonakis suffered a brain aneurysm rupture while attending a government meeting at the Maximos Mansion in Athens. The 53-year-old official collapsed during the meeting and was transported by EKAB ambulance to the Evangelismos Hospital. Dr. Eftychios Archontakis successfully performed an embolization procedure to stop the intracranial hemorrhage. Mr. Mylonakis remains intubated in the intensive care unit (ICU) under the supervision of a medical team led by Professor Anastasia Kotanidou. While his condition is currently reported as stable, physicians emphasize that the next 10 to 14 days are critical for his recovery to avoid potential complications such as cerebral edema. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has visited the hospital to receive updates and expressed his support, while various political leaders have extended their best wishes for his recovery.
