Appeals filed in Ioanna Touni revenge porn case
On April 1, the Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies in Thessaloniki convicted two men for the unauthorized distribution of sexually explicit videos of influencer Ioanna Touni. The court sentenced one defendant to four years imprisonment and the other to three years, the latter benefiting from a mitigating circumstance regarding his prior lawful life. Both defendants filed an appeal against their convictions to challenge the verdict in a higher court. Subsequently, the Thessaloniki Appellate Prosecutor's Office also filed an appeal, requesting stiffer penalties and contesting the mitigating factor granted to the second defendant. Because both sides appealed, the second-instance trial will proceed from a blank slate, meaning the principle of non-aggravation of the defendants' position does not apply. Defense attorney Sotiria Panousaki recently suggested potential evidence implicating a third party in the case. The defendants remain at liberty pending the appeal as the court previously granted suspensive effect to their sentences.
