Police conduct traffic enforcement and crime prevention operations across Cyprus
Cypriot police have launched a week-long intensified traffic enforcement campaign from April 13 to April 19, 2026, aligned with the European ROADPOL operation to reduce fatal accidents caused by speeding. In a separate series of coordinated patrols aimed at public safety and order, officers stopped 625 vehicles and checked 766 individuals. These checks resulted in 93 citations for various traffic violations, including 17 cases of drink-driving and two cases of drug-impaired driving. Two individuals were arrested during the operation: one in Paphos for driving while disqualified and one in the Famagusta district for illegal residency. Additionally, police conducted 41 premises inspections and impounded seven vehicles. Authorities have confirmed that these targeted operational actions will continue on a daily basis to maintain public order.
