EU leaders to hold informal summit in Cyprus
EU heads of state and government will meet for an informal summit in Cyprus on April 23 and 24, 2026. The meetings are scheduled to take place at the Ayia Napa Marina and the Nicosia Conference Center. European Council President Antonio Costa invited the 27 member state leaders to discuss critical geopolitical and economic issues. The agenda includes the ongoing war in Ukraine, the crisis in the Middle East, and potential responses regarding maritime security and energy prices. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to address the leaders via a working dinner on April 23. Additionally, the Council will provide political guidance for the 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework. The summit will also examine the potential invocation of Article 42.7 of the EU Treaty regarding mutual assistance. While no formal decisions are expected, these discussions are intended to prepare for subsequent European Council meetings later in the year.
