Foot-and-mouth disease cases reach 75 in Cyprus

The Veterinary Services of Cyprus confirmed five new cases of foot-and-mouth disease, bringing the total number of infected livestock units to 75. Of these, 15 units are located in Nicosia and 60 in Larnaca. The new infections include four sheep and goat units in Geri and one cattle unit in Dromolaxia-Meneou. Vaccination efforts are ongoing, with the second phase reaching 71% for cattle and 50.5% for sheep and goats. Additionally, 84% of pig farms within the affected areas have been vaccinated. Authorities report that livestock farmers in Pergamos have consented to vaccination, but the process is currently being obstructed by the occupying army. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is addressing this issue in coordination with the United Nations.
