Bus driver hospitalized following passenger attack in Aglantzia
On the evening of Easter Sunday, a bus driver was assaulted by a passenger while operating a bus in the Aglantzia area of Nicosia. The victim sustained head and knee injuries and was subsequently hospitalized. Police have identified the suspect, but no arrests have been made as of the latest reports. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities awaiting medical assessments of the driver's condition to finalize charges. This incident marks the tenth serious attack on a professional bus driver in the last two years. The assault, which occurred while the vehicle was in motion, was captured on video by another passenger. In response, the transport federation of the SEK trade union has demanded an emergency meeting with relevant authorities to address safety concerns. The union is advocating for the installation of protective driver partitions, a measure they claim could have mitigated the risks in this incident.
