Death of Cypriot sports official Antonis Georgallidis
Antonis Georgallidis, a prominent figure in the Cyprus Amateur Athletic Association (KOEAS) and a former track and field athlete, passed away on Holy Thursday at the age of 65. Born on January 20, 1961, in Nicosia, he served the federation for over 40 years as an athlete and executive. His funeral was held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Nicosia. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Cyprus Olympic Committee, the Cyprus Sports Organization, and various athletic clubs. As a tribute to his contributions, the Cyprus Olympic Committee lowered its flags to half-mast at the Olympic House until the day of the funeral. Eulogies were delivered by KOEAS president Periklis Markaris and the deceased's brother, Stelios Georgallidis. Georgallidis, who previously competed for GSP and the Greek national team in sprint events, was honored for his dedication to sports values.
