Greek Deputy Minister Mylonakis to sue journalist Makarios Drousiotis

Greek Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Giorgos Mylonakis, has announced plans to initiate legal proceedings against journalist and Volt Cyprus candidate Makarios Drousiotis. The dispute centers on an audio recording published by Drousiotis that allegedly implicates Mylonakis in an ongoing political scandal in Cyprus known as the 'Santis' case. Mylonakis claims the audio is a fabricated product of sophisticated technology and notes that the voice in the recording uses a Cypriot accent, which he asserts is not his own. He further denies that any member of his former security detail, who allegedly appear in the material, has ever been of Cypriot origin. Mylonakis reports that he contacted Drousiotis directly to clarify his lack of involvement, but the journalist did not retract the claims. Consequently, the Minister has filed a formal complaint with the Greek judicial authorities to identify those he describes as the creators of this campaign. He characterizes the accusations as a character assassination attempt intended to damage both his personal reputation and the Greek government.
