Journalist Makarios Drousiotis makes corruption allegations against President Christodoulides
Cypriot journalist Makarios Drousiotis has publicly accused President Nikos Christodoulides of maintaining ties to a network he refers to as the 'Brotherhood.' In a series of allegations, Drousiotis claims that Christodoulides served as a 'fixer' for the late businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos while acting as an intermediary for former President Nikos Anastasiades. He further alleges that this network continues to exert influence within the Presidential Palace. The journalist raised concerns regarding the 'Sandy' case, claiming that police mishandled evidence, including the alleged deletion of messages from the phone of lawyer Nicos Clerides. Drousiotis also criticized Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis, arguing that his role in previous investigations like the 'Focus' scandal compromises his impartiality in current inquiries. Additionally, Drousiotis claims that authorities are targeting whistleblowers instead of suspected corrupt officials. The President, the Law Office, and the individuals accused by Drousiotis have dismissed these allegations, labeling the mentioned messages as forged. These claims remain unverified and part of an ongoing public dispute regarding institutional integrity in Cyprus.
