Cyprus state workforce data for March 2026
In March 2026, the number of state employees in Cyprus reached 55,367, representing a marginal annual increase of 42 people or 0.1 percent compared to March 2025. According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, employment in the civil service decreased by 0.8 percent and security forces by 0.7 percent, while the educational service saw an increase of 1.8 percent. For the period of January through March 2026, the average number of state employees rose by 0.2 percent compared to the same period in 2025. Among employment categories, workers with indefinite duration contracts experienced the largest rise at 1.7 percent. Conversely, employees with definite duration contracts saw a 2 percent decline across the total workforce. Notably, security forces recorded a significant 85.9 percent drop in definite duration contract staff, primarily due to the expiration of specific contracts in July 2025. The educational sector saw a 24.9 percent increase in workers with indefinite duration contracts, the highest growth among all sub-categories.
