Cyprus Bar Association addresses police searches at lawyer's property

The Cyprus Bar Association (PDS) has issued a statement regarding police investigations conducted at the home and office of lawyer Nikos Kliridis. These searches were initiated as part of an inquiry into allegations linked to the 'Santi' case. Stefanos Skordis, a member of the PDS and president of the Nicosia Bar Association, emphasized that while the necessity of investigating serious allegations is acknowledged, attorney-client privilege is a fundamental pillar of the rule of law that must be protected. The PDS is monitoring developments closely and expressed readiness to intervene if evidence of rights violations emerges. Legal representatives for Kliridis have requested access to the police affidavit used to secure the search warrants from the court. The association noted that such investigations involving lawyers have occurred previously but reiterated that due process must be strictly maintained. A formal follow-up statement from the PDS is expected once further details are obtained.
