Chinese President Xi Jinping calls for respect for international law and sovereignty
On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Beijing to discuss regional security. Xi emphasized the need for full respect regarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Middle Eastern countries. He proposed a four-point plan for peace, advocating for the principle of peaceful coexistence and the development of a sustainable security architecture. Xi urged the international community to uphold the authority of international law, warning against its selective application and a return to the 'law of the jungle.' While Western analysts suggest this language targets U.S. alliance systems, Beijing maintains it is a constructive effort toward regional stability. The meeting occurred as China hosted several foreign leaders, including Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Observers note that China has increasingly sought a diplomatic role in regional tensions, previously engaging in talks regarding Iran. The Chinese president underscored that security and development must be effectively coordinated to ensure global stability.
