School shooting in Kahramanmaras, Turkey

On April 15, 2026, a 14-year-old student named Isa Aras Mersinli opened fire at the Ayser Calik secondary school in Kahramanmaras, Turkey. Reports on the death toll vary, with some sources citing four fatalities (three students and one teacher) and others reporting nine (eight students and one teacher). Approximately 13 to 20 people were injured, with several currently in critical condition. The perpetrator reportedly used multiple firearms, which were allegedly taken from his father, a former police officer who has since been arrested. After the attack, the perpetrator died by suicide. Authorities confirmed that the suspect had an image of Elliot Rodger on his WhatsApp profile, linking him to the 2014 Isla Vista massacre.
